Year 3
Welcome to our Year 3 page. We have lots of information below about what it is like to be in Year 3 at our school and what the children will be learning this year.
Life in Year 3
We understand that Year 3 is a very big step for our children to move from downstairs to upstairs and to start more formalised learning as they start to mature for Key Stage 2. The children will learn to become more independent within their work with the opportunity to get their pen license. Over the course of the year, you will have the opportunity to see your child's teacher on 2 parents evenings throughout the year, where you can see your child's work, and get a written report at the end of the year. If you ever have any questions or concerns, you will see your child's teacher at most drop offs and pick ups but can always email them to arrange a meeting.

Uniform
Please see the link https://www.newtonleysprimary.org/page/?title=Uniform&pid=48 for our uniform policy. Please note that if your child is not in the correct uniform, we will let you know so that you can help them be in the correct uniform the following day. This includes jewellery, if it is not worn for a religious reason, please keep this at home.
P.E. days
Year 3's P.E. day is on a Tuesday. Please ensure your child comes to school in their P.E. kit on these days. Please can the children come to school wearing their PE kits, water bottles and their earrings either removed or taped. This consists of a plain white t-shirt, black shorts/Jogging bottoms, trainers and a black hoody (optional). Please ensure all of your child’s belongings are named. Lots of the children will be wearing clothes of a similar size and style and it can become very difficult to return items of clothing that are unnamed.
Home learning
We know that our children will excel the most through school when they are reading and practising their times tables and spelling at home. Please ensure that your child is reading daily, practising the 2,3,4,5,8 and 10-time tables as often as possible and practise their spellings weekly at home. This will give them the best chance of progression. We know that children love to learn at home and if they create presentations or complete projects of something they are engaged with, we love to see these.
We don't have reading records at our school this year. This is following feedback and pupil voice however, please rest assured that your child is being listened to with their reading at school and your support with this at home gives your child the best chances in developing their reading.
Snacks
In Year 3, children will be required to leave their lunch boxes in the trolleys by the Year 3/4 entrance as they come into school. Year 3 children are not provided with a free snack but they are welcome to bring a healthy snack from home. Children will be reminded to bring their snack upstairs and placed in their bag for break time.
Toys
We know that our children have some lovely toys at home that they would love to share with their friends. Please help us to keep these safe by making sure that they don't come into school. We know how upsetting it can be if personal belongings get lost or broken as they are played with and please rest assured, we already have lots of toys at school.
