Year 2
Welcome to our Year 2 page. We have lots of information below about what it is like to be in Year 2 at our school and what the children will be learning this year.
Life in Year 2
Much of the routines, subjects and structure of the school day will remain the same as Year 1 for your child. However, in Year 2 children will no longer be completing rainbow challenges as we move away from continuous provision.
Key information
Our Year 2 Family
This year, the staff that work with our children in Year 2 the most are:
Teachers: Mrs Dall (2A) Miss Richards (2B) and Mrs Ashpole (2C)
HLTA: Mrs Probert
TAs: Mrs Horn and Mrs Thorpe
Uniform
Please see the link https://www.newtonleysprimary.org/page/?title=Uniform&pid=48 for our uniform policy. Please note that if your child is not in the correct uniform, we will let you know so that you can help them be in the correct uniform the following day. This includes jewellery, if it is not worn for a religious reason, please keep this at home.
P.E. days
Year 2's P.E. day is on a Friday. Please ensure your child comes to school in their P.E. kit on this day.
Library day
Our library day is a Tuesday. If your child would like to change this book please bring it back on this day.
Home learning
We know that our children will excel the most through school when they are reading and practising their times tables and spelling at home. Please ensure that your child is reading as much as possible, preferably daily and the little and often approach works best. This will give them the best chance of progression. We know that children love to learn at home and if they create presentations or complete projects of something they are engaged with, we love to see these.
We don't have reading records at our school this year. This is following feedback and pupil voice however, please rest assured that your child is being listened to with their reading at school and your support with this at home gives your child the best chances in developing their reading.
Snacks
Snack time is daily during story time. Children receive free fruit or veg. They are also welcome to bring in their own healthy snack from home. Please avoid products containing nuts.
Toys
We know that our children have some lovely toys at home that they would love to share with their friends. Please help us to keep these safe by making sure that they don't come into school. We know how upsetting it can be if personal belongings get lost or broken as they are played with and please rest assured, we already have lots of toys at school.
