Reception
Welcome to our Reception page. We have lots of information below about what it is like to be in our school Reception and what the children will be learning this year.
Life in Reception
In Early Years, we plan the activities based on the interests of the children. We are always amazed with the engagement it facilitates and so this year we will continue with this approach . We have a ‘planning meeting’ weekly with our children who tell us what they are interested in (we tend to hear lots about unicorns, fairies, pirates and dinosaurs!) we then plan activities that are based around their interests with some over arching themes to ensure we have good coverage of each curricular area. We strongly believe in building independence in our children; our environment enables the children to access resources freely, choose where they play for the majority of the day and manage their own risks. Some children take some time to leave their registration classroom, however some children have been more than happy to explore from day 1! We continue to encourage the children to explore the whole area, widen friendship groups and most importantly, ensure they are happy and thriving. Our children learn best when they are happy, so this is our primary aim.

Uniform
As the seasons change, please ensure your child comes in with appropriate clothing. Hats and gloves to keep them cosy when it's cold, and sun hats when it's warm. Each child is very welcome to bring in a spare pair of wellington boots for wet days, these can be kept here to save going back and forth if you would prefer. We also ask for a named water bottle to come in everyday to help keep the children hydrated.
If your child is prone to toileting accidents, a spare set of clothes is very helpful. If we issue your child with some of our spare clothing, please ensure it is returned clean. Thank you.
